Charlie and Mia's Barkery is committed to responsible and sustainable sourcing practices. We want our customers to feel confident about the origin and ethics behind our shark-based treats.
Our Sourcing Standards:
- 100% Australian sourced - All our shark products come exclusively from Australian waters
- By-product utilization - The leftover parts from fish caught primarily for human consumption (commonly sold as "flake" in Australian fish shops)
- Sustainable species only - Our treats are made from either North Queensland Black Tip shark or Australian Gummy shark
- Abundant populations - Both species are common in Australian waters and are not endangered
Conservation & Regulatory Compliance:
- IUCN Status: Both North Queensland Black Tip and Australian Gummy sharks are classified as "Least Concern" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)
- Quota Management: All fishing is conducted under strict quotas managed by Australian Fisheries
- Sustainable Practices: Fishing methods follow sustainable practices with government oversight
- No Waste Philosophy: By using parts that would otherwise be discarded from the human food industry, we help reduce waste
Transparency Promise: We believe in complete transparency about our sourcing. These sharks are primarily caught for human consumption and are commonly found in Australian fish and chip shops as "flake." By using the parts not typically consumed by humans, we're contributing to a more sustainable, waste-free approach to fishing.
